Ready for a Tour?

We finally have our apartment put together well enough, that I feel comfortable sharing some pictures with you.  It is very sparsely appointed for two reasons.  First, we all know that less stuff means that I will spend less time cleaning.  Secondly, less stuff means more mobility.  We still plan on living aboard within the next year, and I don’t want that move to involve the nightmarish decluttering that dominated June and July, with this move.  Our rule is that we will own nothing that we can not part with.

So, let me show you my new home!

First, the dining room. We bought this '80's table and three chairs from a nearby thrift store.

There is a door between the bathtub and toilet, which is very nice!

This is kind of embarrassing, because I look like I'm trying to score minimalist points. But, Beanie wanted to sleep in the same room as us, and use this as her play room. She likes the open space and freedom to arrange her toys as needed, for whatever she is doing. We might add a shelf, for her books and games.

The pictures will be hung, after we get some nails.

Our bedroom. As cool as the futon-matress-on-the-floor thing is, it is not comfortable at all. We will probably get a futon frame, for our bed.

Beanie, however, loves the fluffy Japanese futon that Rob sewed for her!

Lest you think I've become perfect, I will let you see our walk-in closet. We now have more hangers, so it is a bit more organized.

So that is our new home! Next week, I am going to start posting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

    • We’re getting to know the Clear Lake area really well. There’s a really nice thrift store, and a gazillion sushi restaurants! 😉 We haven’t done a ton of driving, because the car has no a/c. We’ve ordered the parts to fix it, off of e-bay, and we’ll find a shop to actually do the work.

  1. Hi Bethany! Thanks for sharing an update of your new “temporary” housing. This has the potential to be a really great step on your path. Every time Thom and I travel and/or stay in a place temporarily (and you KNOW we like to do that from my blog) it reminds us of how little we really need to make us happy. We tend to wear favorite clothes, use favorite things and all the rest is just stuff we cart around because we think we “might” need it some day. Your living here for a while will show you what’s important before you move on to your next step… ~Kathy

  2. What a cute apartment. Makes sense to me to sleep all in the same room and have one room to play in. I would have done that if my boys wanted to…it would have kept the play things corralled in one location. 🙂 Wicker furniture seems perfect for the southwest, and the 80s table and chairs are cute. I wish my place looked that cleaned up right now.

    • It helped that we got rid of so much. Cleaning only takes a few minutes each morning. We’re going to be very careful about what we buy, so that it stays that way!

        • I think we have move cupboard space here, than we did in our house. We had a crazy amount on Moonraker, as well. It definitely is a luxury. I think it’s funny that the cupboards in the apartment look exactly like the cupboards in our house, though!

  3. Wow, that place looks cozy. The wicker looks perfect in that setting too. Too bad you’re missing this cold and rainy weather up here!!

  4. Oh, mine’s not ready for photos – so all power to you. Being minimal now, must be such a breeze – I thought I was, but man, this move took FOREVER!!! Ok, 5hours or so, but still, who’d have thought I had that much stuff. Must be nice to have all those added bonus features too!

  5. Congrats in your new home, you have all you need and it looks comfy. Enjoy Houston, lots to see and do there and of course, once you move to the boat, it will take you no time to pack up.

    • We’re having a great time so far! We’ve been to the library (Beanie got her first library card!), to the spray park, and we’re ordered City Passes, so we’ll get tickets to a bunch of attractions. I figured we might as well be tourists, before we get settled in!
